Sioux Falls, SD (October 20, 2017) – The American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) Executive Vice President, Brian Jennings, released the following statement thanking the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt for his letter to several Midwestern Senators reiterating his commitment to support the spirit and text of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
“The concessions and promises made by EPA Administrator Pruitt are the direct result of the strong leadership and active intervention of U.S. Senators,” Jennings said.
“We particularly thank Iowa Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst for leading the way.
It will be good to put the RFS point-of-obligation issue behind us and we will ramp up our work with bipartisan leaders in Congress and EPA to ensure the RFS works as intended and RVP relief is provided to retailers who want to sell E15 to their customers year-round.”
Administrator Pruitt’s letter outlined four key commitments including EPA formally rejecting petitions to move the RFS point-of-obligation downstream within 30 days; EPA releasing the 2018 RVOs by the Nov. 30 deadline and ensuring the volumes are at least as high as the proposed level of 19.24 billion gallons, of which at least 4.24 billion gallons will be advanced biofuel, 238 million gallons cellulosic biofuel and 15 billion gallons conventional biofuel; EPA actively exploring legal authority to provide RVP relief for E15, including a definitive legal analysis; and while EPA is focused on ways to address RIN price volatility, the Agency will not pursue regulations to allow RINs on exported renewable fuel.
