America's Renewable Future Commends Former MD Gov. O'Malley's Support of RFS

Date Posted: March 25, 2015

Des Moines — Former Gov. and potential 2016 candidate, Martin O’Malley, told Jennifer Jacobs of the Des Moines Register that he unequivocally favors keeping the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) in place.

America’s Renewable Future released the following statement following confirmation of O’Malley’s support:

“Being a true leader in this election will mean having the courage to stand up to oil lobbyists for clean American jobs, and America’s freedom.

"Gov. O’Malley is a perfect example of a presidential contender courageously standing up to the oil industry to fight for America’s security and rural economies.

"With the importance of American clean energy jobs and our national security to this election, we look forward to seeing other Democrats commit to keeping the RFS in place like Gov. O’Malley did.

“The rest of the Democratic field should show the same courage as Gov. O’Malley and affirm their commitment to this crucial policy for Iowa and all of America in the coming months.

"The RFS is the only U.S. policy combatting our dangerous dependence on oil from hostile foreign regions and creating hundreds of thousands of permanent, American clean energy jobs.”

The RFS has boosted rural economies and put people to work here in America, creating nearly 900,000 jobs.

Further, since the RFS was passed, we have had unprecedented levels of energy independence, lowering our dependence on oil from hostile foreign regions.
