America's Renewable Future Releases Statement Criticizing Washington Treatment of RFS

Date Posted: March 31, 2015

Des Moines — In an attempt to set the record straight regarding the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and politicians’ claims, America’s Renewable Future released the following statement:

“Washington politicians, funded by oil and gas at the rate of almost $62 million last year alone, have recently been crying wolf about government “winners and losers”, smearing the RFS to boost their bottom-line and eliminate competition.

In fact, the big winner is none other than Big Oil—which has been subsidized for 102 years to the tune of $470 billion.

Deeply in the pockets of Big Oil, creatures of the Beltway bemoan about the ethanol “subsidy” that expired in 2012 in order to protect the oil and gas bottom-line at the expense of Iowa families.

“The fact of the matter is that the common sense, bipartisan RFS injects competition into the marketplace and provides market access for clean, renewable alternatives made right here in America instead of protecting a monopoly for unstable foreign oil.

"It guarantees consumers a choice at the pump and stops the oil industry from blocking these homegrown alternative fuels from the market.

“If politicians want to speak truth to power, they should stand up to the behemoth industry that has been the biggest winner of government assistance over the last century—Big Oil.

Real courage would be standing up for the American consumer, who not only grows our food, but also produces a domestic fuel that is cleaner, safer, and less expensive than foreign oil."
