America's Renewable Future Stands With IA Farmers to Urge EPA to Support Rural America

Date Posted: June 26, 2015

Kansas City, KS — America’s Renewable Future took to the road this Thursday to stand with Iowans at the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) hearing on the RFS Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs).

ARF, Iowa farmers, and Iowan advocates for clean, secure, American energy called on the EPA to get the RFS back on track and choose rural America over foreign oil.

“Iowa should have a seat at the table,” said Lincolnway Energy Director and ARF Co-Chair, Bill Couser.

“We lead the nation in the production of ethanol and biodiesel—and our livelihoods depend on the RFS.

"Already, the EPA’s stalling and misfires have cost rural America over $13.7 billion in investment in the next generation of biofuels, and countless thousands of jobs.

“The EPA should set a hearing in Iowa to hear from growers who were unable to leave their farms during this critical time, and most importantly, reverse its flawed RVO proposal and instead maintain the levels set by Congress.”

Iowa’s Gov. Terry Branstad and hundreds of Iowans joined ARF in Kansas City to urge the EPA to reverse its RVO proposal to levels set by Congress and to schedule a hearing in Iowa.

They echoed Iowa’s entire federal delegation, which called for a hearing in Iowa earlier last week.

“The EPA has a choice – protect the deep pockets of Big Oil and their monopolistic practices or nurture consumer choice, renewable energy growth and a healthy rural economy,” said Branstad.

“Unless you advance a robust RFS, you will constrain growth in the rural economy, negatively impacting family farms, agri-business and the biofuels industries, and the citizens and businesses that are part of our nation’s rural fabric.”
