American Coalition For Ethanol Responds to President Obama's Clean Power Plan

Date Posted: August 3, 2015

Sioux Falls, SD — August 3, 2015 — The Executive Vice President of the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) issued the following statement on President Obama’s unveiling of the Clean Power Plan today.

“Some perspective is necessary given the buzz that President Obama’s Clean Power Plan announcement will create,” said ACE Executive Vice President Brian Jennings.

“In reality, since EPA began implementing it in March of 2010, the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) has been the most significant and successful Clean Air Act policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cutting carbon pollution by nearly 40 million metric tons in 2014 alone.

"That’s like removing more than 8 million cars from the road.”

“But now EPA is proposing to take the RFS off-track through a new precedent that could also put the future of the Clean Power Plan in doubt,” Jennings said.

“How does President Obama expect to hold power plants legally accountable for new Clean Air Act requirements when under his leadership EPA is letting oil companies ignore existing Clean Air Act RFS requirements to reduce the carbon emissions of motor fuel?”
