Jim Lelio, Director, business development for Kinder Morgan Energy Partners(KM), discusses Sept. 25 a 105-mile, 16-inch ethanol pipeline between Tampa and Orlando, FL which will be batched between gasoline shipments. Highlights From the Podcast The pipeline, built in 1996, was formerly a dedicated gasoline pipeline may soon include batch ethanol between batches of gasoline. "Because this has less complexity with fewer products, the more likely success will be." The replacement of incompatible parts has been replaced. Kinder Morgan is currently in middle of cleaning process. KM plans to conduct a test with ethanol by the second week of October. The project was delayed two weeks by storms Gustaf and Ike because of materials and personnel coming out of Houston. "We are encouraged by the results and are looking forward to the ultimate test batch of ethanol." KM is planning a Nov. 1 public announcement on how the overall project is going and how the test batch worked. "This is customer driven. The customers have asked that we look for ways to ship ethanol via pipeline. "Florida is one of unique places where we have a relatively new pipeline, short distance and it is being handled 100% by truck today between Tampa and Orlando." "If we are successful, we’ll look to take those lessons and apply it to other markets." Lelio said there is are 900 million gallons of ethanol sold each year in the Florida market. Biography Jim Lelio is the direcotr of business development of Kinder Morgan Products Pipelines for Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, LP (NYSE: KMP), with primary roles of National Biolfuels Manager and Commercial Manager for Central Florida Pipeline. As National Biofuels Manager he is responsible for the development and coordination of biofuels initiaves across the nation's largest independently owned refined petroleum products pipeline system, which transports more than 2 million barrels of gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel and natural gas liquids per day through a newtork of more than 10,000 miles of pipe. Lelio joined Kinder Morgan (KM) in 2001 as head of Business Development for KM Liquid Terminals before overseeing a variety of development opportunities as a member of the company's corporate development group and an international tour in Calgary, Alberta supporting hte commercial integration of Kinder Moergan's $6 billion acquisition of Terasen Pipelines. Prior to joining KM, Lelio served as a U.S. Naval Officer onboard the USS Merrill (DD 976) before entering the energy transportaiton indusstry with roels in finance and commercial/business development within GATX Terminals and Koch Industries, Inc. While with Koch, Lelio oversaw the refiner's national ethanol program and commercial development of the company's branded fuels business.
