Dr. Hans Blaschek, director of the Center for Advanced BioEnergy Research (CABER) at the University of Illinois (UIUC), Urbana, talked with BioFuels Journal, Jan. 13, about a new master’s curriculum program at the UIUC on bioenergy.

Highlights from the Podcast

• CABER will help facilitate faculty activities in area of research, outreach and education.

• CABER is also offering the first new curricula in bioenergy approved by Illinois Board of Higher Education, a masters level degree program.

• The curriculum is tailored to provide students with flexibility, including policy and technical side.

• Enrollment is starting now. Classes will start in the fall. • More than 100 faculty have been identified with an interest or expertise in bioenergy.

The Center for Advanced BioEnergy Research (CABER)

The Center for Advanced BioEnergy Research at the University of Illinois was formed two years ago in response to a perceived campus need.

The CABER mission is to facilitate bioenergy-related activities as it relates to research, teaching and outreach.

Hans Blaschek Biography

Dr. Blaschek earned his doctoral degree in food science (microbiology) in 1980 at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey-New Brunswick/Piscataway. He also has a master’s degree in food science and bachelor of arts in biological sciences from Rutgers.

He is currently the director for the Center for advanced BioEnergy Research (CABER), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), a position he has held since 2006.

He has also been the theme leader of the molecular bioenegineering of biomass conversion research team from 2004 to the present.

Finally, he has been assistant dean, biobased research initiatives, office of research, college of agricultural, comsumer and environmental sciences, U of I, 2002 to present.
