BFJ.com Podcast with American Coalition for Ethanol's Executive Vice President, Brian Jennings, on Impact for Ethanol of RFS2Date Posted: February 4, 2010 The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the rules Feb. 3 for the Renewable Fuels Standard 2 (RFS2) which impacts the ethanol industry. BioFuels Journal spoke with the American Coalition for Ethanol's Executive Vice President Brian Jennings, Feb. 4, to elaborate on the impact on the ethanol industry. Highlights From the Podcast Corn ethanol now qualifies under EPA thresholds as being at least 20% better in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions than gasoline. Therefore, starch-based ethanol meets the law as a renewable fuel. The international indirect land use change pentalty has been updated, although it remains a part of the calculations for GHG emissions for ethanol. Now corn ethanol, even with land use change penalty is 21% better than gasoline. Without it, corn-based ethanol is about 60% better than gasoline. International Land Use Change remains a theory not corroborated by actual land use changes. Biography Brian Jennings was raised on a central South Dakota grain farm and cattle ranch.
