FUMPA Biofuels Earns Both BQ-9000 Titles

Date Posted: January 3, 2007

Jefferson City, MO -- FUMPA Biofuels did not stop at just knowing the biodiesel it produced met ASTM D 6751 through its adherence to the BQ-9000 program.

FUMPA wanted to make sure the handling of the fuel, through its distribution service, also met these standards. FUMPA Biofuels of Redwood Falls, MN has become a certified marketer in the BQ-9000 program, and is also an accredited producer.

BQ-9000 includes procedures for fuel storage, handling and management aimed at ensuring fuel quality in production, throughout distribution.

Company officials say they understand that although producing biodiesel to its specification (ASTM D 6751) is critical, equally critical is proper handling and blending of the fuel after it leaves the plant.

Petroleum distributors are often the last to touch the fuel before it goes into vehicles.

Having producers and marketers increasingly adhere to BQ-9000 parameters helps ensure that a process is in place to prevent contamination, use additives properly and engage in good blending practices.

All these together equate to the consumer having a positive experience. There are 14 accredited producers, and now four certified marketers.

FUMPA can be proud of something else: All of the major biodiesel producers in Minnesota are accredited producers or certified marketers under the industry quality control program.

FUMPA makes the first biodiesel marketer in the state to become certified. The BQ-9000 accredited biodiesel producers are Minnesota Soybean Processors, SoyMor Biodiesel and FUMPA Biofuels.

Recent testing results show fuel from all of the accredited producers in Minnesota was in spec.
