Gas Technology Institute (GTI) announced that Peter Witty has joined the company as its new General Counsel.

At the Spring Board of Directors Meeting today, Witty was elected as an Officer of GTI and will serve as Corporate Secretary.

Witty will play a strategic role in exploring and analyzing potential acquisitions, global joint ventures, and other strategic partnerships for GTI, as well as providing guidance on government regulations, tax matters, and corporate governance.

Witty’s responsibilities will also include evaluating and negotiating business transactions, as well as advising senior management on the legal aspects of ongoing operational issues.

He will also oversee the development and management of a comprehensive risk management plan.

“I’m glad to have Peter join our Executive Team. He is a strong leader and business enabler, with broad business acumen related to intellectual property, technology commercialization, contracts, and legal compliance.

"He will be a great asset as we seek to grow our business and create exceptional value for our customers in the global marketplace,” says GTI President and CEO David Carroll.

Prior to GTI, Witty spent the last 10 years in positions of increasing responsibility with Abbott Laboratories, a pharmaceuticals and health care products company that operates in over 130 countries.

In his most recent position as Division Counsel for Abbott’s molecular diagnostics business, he served as a commercial attorney responsible for handling all legal aspects related to the business, including licensing agreements, business development matters, commercial transactions, compliance issues and business counseling.

Before that, he worked as an Associate at two Chicago law firms—Latham & Watkins, and Ross & Hardies (now McGuire Woods).

Witty earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Notre Dame, Indiana, and a Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School.

Prior to attending law school, Witty was an officer and helicopter pilot in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), where he served during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
