Harris Group Inc. to Help Provide Independent Engineering Services to the DOE's Integrated Biorefinery ProgramDate Posted: March 17, 2010 Seattle, WA—Harris Group Inc. announced March 17 its selection as a subcontractor by R.W. Beck, an SAIC company, to help provide independent engineering services for the Integrated Biorefinery Program of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). A Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) has been awarded for this work in support of DOE's Office of the Biomass Program and the Golden Field Office. R.W. Beck's BPA has a performance period ending Sept. 30, 2015 and a ceiling value of $21 million. Through this program, the DOE will partially fund the design, construction, and operation of 18 integrated biorefinery pilot and demonstration projects. The DOE grants will help promote the development and commercialization of cellulosic and algae derived biofuel and biochemical production in the United States. Under the BPA, Harris Group Inc. will work together with R.W. Beck to serve as the DOE's independent engineer on these projects, providing services including assistance in program management, technical and financial due diligence, construction and operations monitoring, and Recovery Act compliance. The DOE's Biomass Program conducts research and development in four key areas of technology required to produce biomass feedstocks and convert them to useful biofuels and value-added products. These technology areas are: Feedstocks, Processing and Conversion, Integrated Biorefineries, and Infrastructure. The DOE's Biomass Program is helping transform the nation's renewable and abundant biomass resources into cost competitive, high-performance biofuels, bioproducts, and biopower.
