Humphrey Manlift Celebrates 120th Year Anniversary

Date Posted: May 12, 2007

Faribault, MN--Humphrey Manlift Company, the world's first provider of vertical employee belt manlifts, will celebrate its 120th anniversary this quarter.

The company's flagship product is still in production and the company is positioned for another year of growth.

The company's primary product is called the Humphrey Manlift.

It was invented in 1887 by Seth K. Humphrey, a South Dakota flour mill worker who had tired of climbing and descending stairs in the routine performance of his job.

He developed an idea that became a belt manlift for simultaneous up-and-down employee transportation.

His first customer was Charles A. Pillsbury who utilized the manlift in his Minneapolis mill - the largest mill in the world at that time.

Today, the company is the only manufacturer supplying belt manlifts worldwide.

"Because they are so durable and safe, Humphrey Manlifts stay in operation for decades," said Mary Riach, president and general manager for Humphrey Manlift Company, "so we are refocusing the company to assure our product, parts and service legacy for another 120 years."

Humphrey Manlifts are available directly from the company or through its worldwide reseller network.

Replacement parts for the Humphrey Manlift as well as for third-party manlifts are also available, as well as reverse engineering and retrofitting repairs solutions for discontinued third-party parts.

There are more than 35 industries that specify the use of Humphrey Manlifts in facilities such as grain, milling, feed and seed companies, power and energy plants, breweries and automobile parking garages.

Manlifts are preferred to conventional elevators because there is no waiting, the cost of purchase and maintenance is dramatically lower, they require less floor space, and their equipment life is virtually endless.
