Illinois Soybean Association Welcomes Two New Members to B20 Club

Date Posted: November 23, 2016

Bloomington, IL (Nov. 22, 2016)—The Chicago Park District and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County are the newest members of the B20 Club, which is funded by the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) checkoff program to support biodiesel use.

“By transitioning to biodiesel, these organizations demonstrate their dedication to using efficient, reliable and cost-effective fuel that supports their environmental and sustainability efforts,” says Rebecca Richardson, ISA biodiesel lead. “They are great additions to our B20 Club family of fleets.”

The Chicago Park District participates in a program that recycles cooking oil from Chicago-area restaurants and special events and converts the refuse to BQ-9000-level biodiesel fuel, the highest quality available.

By operating more than 300 vehicles on biodiesel at up to a 50 percent blend, the Chicago Park District significantly reduces vehicle emissions.

“We are pleased to be part of the B20 Club, which helps us network and exchange resources with other fleets fueled by biodiesel,” says Michael Kelly, superintendent, Chicago Park District.

“Moving to biodiesel fuel has allowed us to save money and reduce fuel emissions. It’s a logical next step to join with others who share our commitment to environmental stewardship.” The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is a nationally recognized conservation agency that works to protect and preserve lands, waterways, plants and animals in several western Chicago suburbs.

The group reduces its environmental impact by operating vehicles on alternative fuels, including B20 biodiesel.

“Biodiesel allows us to operate efficiently while reducing our carbon footprint,” says Drew Bergenthal, fleet specialist at the Forest Preserve.

“By joining the B20 Club, we have aligned ourselves with other fleets that share our dedication to optimizing sustainability and protecting the environments in which we work.”

The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) sponsors the B20 Club in partnership with the American Lung Association in Illinois, recognizing Illinois-based fleets running on biodiesel blends of 20 percent or greater. For more information on the B20 Club, visit www.b20club.org.
