Iowa Power Fund Awards Fiberight LLC $2.9 Million to Demonstrate MSW Ethanol ProcessDate Posted: September 9, 2010 Dubuque—Following an update presentation and tour for the Power Fund’s Smarter Sustainable Dubuque Initiative, the Iowa Power Fund Board approved funding for a new alternative energy project for the production of cellulosic ethanol during their meeting at the Grand River Center Wednesday afternoon. Fiberight-Blairstown Operating, LLC was awarded a $2.9 million grant to demonstrate how non-homogeneous municipal solid waste (MSW) can be converted into cellulosic ethanol, bio-chemicals, and other processed fiber products using a proprietary biochemical technology on a highly cost efficient, commercial production scale. With over $4.1million in leveraged funds the total project cost will be over $7 million. Since its creation nearly three years ago, the Iowa Power Fund has fueled success for Iowans in all three of its intended areas: creating new jobs; drawing the attention of renewable energy companies and the private investments they bring; and the growth of an industry that has made Iowa a leader in cutting-edge, value-added agriculture. The Power Fund has invested more than $40 million directly in 32 competitive projects, leveraging more than $270 million in energy research and development, early stage commercialization and education and information – all in the form of federal funding and private investment.
