Iowa Renewable Fuels Assn. Celebrates Opening of Blender Pumps at Fuel Stations in Olds and Rock Rapids, IADate Posted: September 5, 2008 Johnston, IA—The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) congratulates Unity Biofuels and Popkes Car Care Inc. for being among the first Iowa retailers to install blender pumps. Flexible fuel vehicle drivers can now find E85 mid-level ethanol blends at these locations: Unity Biofuels 302 E School St Olds, IA 52647 Popkes Car Care Inc. 800 1st Ave. Rock Rapids, IA 51246 Blender pumps are the newest way for consumers to fill up with ethanol in Iowa. The pumps can be set up to offer traditional ethanol blends, such as E10 and E85, as well as mid-level blends like E20, E30 and E50. This gives consumers more options to choose from, based on price and fuel efficiency. Both stations will offer ethanol blends of E10, E20, E30, and E85. Currently, all blend levels above E10 are only approved for flexible-fuel vehicles. “Blender pumps are the newest trend in renewable fuel distribution,” said Lucy Norton the managing director if IRFA. “The Olds and Rock Rapids stations are leading the way in providing Iowa motorists with clean, alternative fuel options made in America from our own renewable resources.” Both stations are scheduled to have a grand opening starting with Unity Biofuels which will be held September 5 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Popkes Car Care Inc. grand opening will be held on Friday, September 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Both will offer fuel discounts. E85 is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. E85, as well as other mid-level blends such as E20, E30 and E50, can be used in flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) designed to burn the alternative fuels.
