Novozymes Responds to Obama Administration's 2017 RFS Volume Obligations

Below is a statement from Novozymes, Adam Monroe.

Washington - May 18, 2016 - “Today’s proposal recognizes that America can’t achieve its climate, health or economic ambitions without renewable fuels – and we thank the White House for that recognition.

"We are glad to see President Obama call for more biofuels and look forward to that trend continuing, moving us closer to what’s intended in the RFS law.

"But today’s decision is also a confusing signal from an Administration that pushed the world so hard to come together and fight climate change at COP21 in Paris last year.

"One of the most powerful tools in the climate fight is American-grown, American-innovated, American-made renewable fuels.

"These fuels are a catalyst for the American economy, driving private investment, creating jobs and saving drivers money.

"While President Obama is pushing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on one hand, today’s proposal still allows the oil industry to pollute with carbon-intense fuels on the other.

"The only way the world will switch to renewable energy is if bold leaders make it happen.

"The private sector is taking bold action: Investing millions of dollars in cutting emissions with our technology, turning biomass into biofuel and building facilities, like our $200 million enzyme manufacturing plant in Blair, Nebraska.

"We urge the Administration to be bold too, and get back to the original intent of the RFS. Other countries are already capitalizing on our lack of clarity,” said Adam Monroe, President, Americas.
