REV Biodiesel (AZ) Holliday Grease Collection Drive Generates Over 10,800 Pounds of Used Cooking Oil

Date Posted: February 2, 2012

Gilbert, AZ—Aggressive efforts to recycle used cooking grease from holiday kitchens by the Gilbert and Mesa fire departments, plus contributions from an East Valley synagogue, will help Gilbert-based REV Biodiesel reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 23,556 pounds in the coming weeks.

The Holiday Grease collection drive, in its third year in Gilbert and first year in Mesa, generated more than 10,800 pounds of used cooking oil from kitchens throughout the East Valley.

Also contributing was Temple Emanuel of Tempe, whose members for the third year in a row contributed used grease generated during eight days of Hanukkah celebrations.

"The commitment and support of the fire departments in Gilbert and Mesa, and the Temple, were fantastic this year," said Dan Rees, president of REV Biodiesel.

"The East Valley residents really stepped up to the plate by taking the time to bring their used grease to the fire stations."

Oil Collection BarrelThe annual Holiday Waste Grease and Oil Recycling Drive with REV Biodiesel began Friday, November 18th and continued through January 13th, 2012.

During that time, the public was able to dispose of their used grease at any of nine Gilbert Fire Stations throughout the city, five participating Mesa Fire Stations, and the Temple Emanuel.

REV Biodiesel has already begun recycling the used grease, turning it into the biodegradable, non-toxic alternative fuel known as biodiesel at its processing plant in Gilbert.

The state-of-the-art facility is able to achieve a nearly 100% conversion rate for producing biodiesel fuel from waste oil.

As an alternative fuel that is used in commercial, municipal and consumer vehicles, this recycled grease will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 23,000 pounds, which would be the equivalent of filling the tanks of more than 24 standard-sized school buses with pure biodiesel fuel.

Gilbert Mayor John Lewis was enthusiastic about the outcome of the drive.

"We have a remarkable community and this is yet another example of how the people of Gilbert and all the East Valley are committed to keeping our communities clean and environmentally friendly.

"It's a pleasure to be able to partner with a forward looking business like REV Biodiesel to promote clean technology and alternative energy opportunities."

In addition to the Holiday Waste Grease and Oil Recycling Drive, REV Biodiesel provides a grease recycling barrel accessible 24 hours a day in front of their production plant at 1980 W. Commerce Avenue in Gilbert.
