TranSystems' Frank Miller, PE, Named Chair of Committee 17 for the American Rairway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association

Date Posted: September 1, 2010

Orlando, FL—The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) announced TranSystems' Frank Miller as the new Chair for Committee 17: High Speed Rail Systems.

Miller will begin his three-year term and new duties effective immediately.

Miller has already outlined a number of initiatives on which he would like Committee 17 to focus for his three-year term.

"First, we need more authors contributing to our reference manual content, which is becoming more comprehensive," Miller said. "Second, we need to make sure our large membership of nearly 90 professionals stays active and involved with the committee. Third, we need to lead the way in developing and maintaining high speed rail recommended practices for which high speed rail design and construction can be applied here in the United States."

Miller's involvement began in the AREMA organization more than 20 years ago in 1988 as an AREMA member.

In the mid-1990s, Miller began participating in AREMA's committees and in the mid-2000s began contributing reference manual content for Committees 17 and 11, specifically focused on vertical geometry and corridor planning. Having worked on high speed rail curve analysis along the Northeast Corridor for Amtrak in the 1990s, and an update in 2000s, helped solidify Miller as an expert on high speed rail engineering.

Miller is currently a Subcommittee Chair on Committee 11: Commuter and Intercity Rail and had previously served as the Vice Chair for one year and Secretary for two years for Committee 17.

Miller is a Vice President of Passenger Rail and Transit at TranSystems, a transportation consulting firm headquartered in Kansas City, Mo.

Miller supports the firm's architecture, engineering and planning (AEP) group.

He brings 26 years experience as a recognized leader in planning, design, construction, inspection, project management, and track and facility engineering for major railway transportation and mass transit systems.
