Trans Load Limited Inc. and Blendstar LLC Improve Ethanol Distribution Logistics by Opening Ethanol Terminal in Birmingham, ALDate Posted: August 28, 2008 This article is reprinted from the USDA's August 28 Grain Transportation Report. A new 4-million gallon per month ethanol distribution terminal opened this month in Birmingham, AL, as reported by Oil Price Information Service. The facility will be served by the CSX railroad system with the eventual capability of being served by Norfolk Southern. BNSF, a western U.S. railroad, also has service to Birmingham, AL. A distribution facility of this size would likely translate into transportation demand to move over 130 rail carloads of ethanol per month. Ethanol demand continues to grow rapidly in the Southeastern United States due to favorable blending economics and the removal of legislative barriers in Southeast states, allowing blending of ethanol with gasoline to E-10 levels. This terminal is an example of private sector investment to help reduce logistical challenges to distributing ethanol. For more information, call Surajudeen (Deen) Olowolayemo, USDA, at 202-690-1328.
