U.S. Energy Services Dr. Art Smith as New Price Risk ManagerDate Posted: Apr. 30, 2008 Minneapolis, MNU.S. Energy Services announced April 29 the addition of Dr. Art Smith as price risk manager. Smith will be responsible for client communications on risk management and the energy commodities markets. U.S. Energy Services is an independently owned energy management company focused on management of their clients’ natural gas and electric supply costs. "Energy prices continue to be very volatile and this has created more risk and uncertainty for our clients who use large amounts of energy," said Bill Bathe, president of U.S. Energy Services. "We wanted to upgrade our capability to provide quality risk management services to these clients," Bathe said. Smith obtained his Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University and has more than 25 years experience in pricing and price risk management. Most recently, Smith was an executive professor at the Global Energy Management Institute, University of Houston, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate Energy Trading classes. He developed the energy risk management curriculum for Texas A&M University. Smith was on the board of governors at the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), where he directed the development of the natural gas (Henry Hub) futures contract currently traded on the NYMEX. Earlier in his career, Smith developed various futures contracts for the Chicago Board of Trade. Smith will advise U.S. Energy account managers and clients on risk management planning and implementation services. “Art will ensure that our clients are getting the information they need to manage their energy price risk,” said Bathe.
