Quincy MA—Myriant Technologies LLC, a leading biotech developer and manufacturer of renewable biochemicals, announced Feb. 24 that it has been chosen by AlwaysOn as one of the GoingGreen East Top 50 winners.

Myriant was specially selected by the AlwaysOn editorial team and industry experts spanning the globe based on a set of five criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value, and media buzz.

Myriant engineers naturally occurring organisms to utilize sugars from biomass, and can incorporate carbon dioxide from the environment to produce multiple high value chemicals that are today made from petroleum.

As a low cost producer of these green chemicals, Myriant is able to be price competitive even if oil prices drop to $30 per barrel.

With its proven D(-) Lactic Acid already in commercial production, Myriant will start manufacturing and selling its next product, succinic acid, a "building block" in the production of fibers, urethanes, paints, and pharmaceuticals, in 2011.
