Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Commends Winners of Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Awards

Johnston, IA - With a fuels market dominated by the petroleum industry, most retailers don’t go beyond offering an E10 option at the pump.

Yet some, like Charlie Good and Richard Weiner, break through the petroleum monopoly by offering their customers additional renewable options like E15, E85 or biodiesel.

Good and Weiner were honored by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey with the 2017 Renewable Fuels Marketing Awards.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) presents the awards annually to retailers who put forth exceptional efforts to promote renewable fuel options.

Two awards are given each year – one for ethanol marketing and one for biodiesel marketing.

In addition to his commitment to offering a variety of ethanol blends at his Good & Quick store in Nevada, Good was awarded the ethanol marketing award for his numerous efforts to promote ethanol at a local and national level.

He has testified before the EPA several times in support of higher Renewable Fuel Standard volumes and even briefed Congressional staff on the great value of E15.

Weiner, owner of Cartersville Elevator in Nora Springs, received the biodiesel award for his outstanding biodiesel marketing to farmers through his tankwagon service.

Literally every gallon of diesel Weiner has sold in the past decade has been blended with biodiesel.

In addition, he runs his company’s 18-semi fleet exclusively on biodiesel blends.

“Unfortunately many retailers find it easy to stick with the fuel options of the past,” said Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw.

“Thankfully, Charlie and Richard had the foresight to invest in the fuels of the future.

"Their reward has been increased sales and customer satisfaction.

"Both of these gentlemen deserve to be recognized and hopefully their hard work will inspire more retailers to expand their ethanol and biodiesel options.”
