POET will break ground Tuesday, Aug. 15, on an 80-million-gallon expansion of its POET Biorefining – Marion (OH) biofuel facility (www.poet.com/marion) at the plant, which began operations in October 2008.

The expansion will more than double the size of the plant, which now has the capacity to produce approximately 69 million gallons of ethanol a year.

Ceremonies at the ground breaking will feature POET CEO Jeff Broin; U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-OH 4th District; Ohio Department of Agriculture Director David Daniels, and POET Biorefining – Marion General Manager Rick Fox.

Hundreds of area farmers and community leaders also are expected to attend, according to the press advisory about the event issued by POET.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. (EDT), with speeches scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided at noon.

POET says it is the world’s largest biofuels producer through its network of 27 production facilities.

Through its joint venture with DSM, POET also operates a commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in Emmetsburg, IA.
